Acer campestre, commonly known as Field Maple or Hedge Maple, is a deciduous tree native to Europe and parts of Asia. It typically grows to heights of 10-15 meters with a rounded crown. The leaves are palmate with five lobes, turning yellow to orange in the fall. Inconspicuous flowers appear in spring, followed by winged seeds that are dispersed by the wind. Field Maple is valued for its ornamental foliage, tolerance of urban conditions, and use in hedging and topiary. It is often planted as a street tree, in parks and gardens, or for wildlife habitat. The bark is grayish-brown and smooth, becoming rough with age.
